What is this, you ask? Birthday Alert is a simple application to help you remember birthdays that are important to you!
This is an alternative to a native app that you would install from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. It is an "offline-only" Progressive Web Application (PWA), meaning you cannot use this app without first installing it.
A few IMPORTANT notes of caution:
For now, you must use the Chrome browser (including on mobile), as other browsers don't fully support constructs relied upon by this app. Though it MAY work with other browsers, it has not been tested and is not supported for use with anything other than Chrome.
Do not delete cookies from Chrome as doing so will DELETE ALL OF THE APP'S DATA (yes, this means all of the birthdates you've entered). If you are someone who dislikes being tracked on the internet, I'd suggest using a different browser, from which you can delete cookies however you'd like, for all other purposes, and keep Chrome installed for use ONLY WITH PWAs.
This is v1 of this app, so it does NOT have a way to export, backup, or preserve your data when Chrome inevitably updates (possibly without your knowledge). Therefore PLEASE do not add a significant amount of data into this. I will be bolstering this functionality incrementally, as time allows. If you do try this out, and would be so kind as to provide feedback, please do so HERE, and let me know what you hate, anything you love, what's missing, and what's confusing or could be improved. Thanks much!
With those out of the way, the current featureset of Birthday Alert allows you to add, edit, and delete birthdate entries. You can adjust reminder settings, for each birthday, to alert you (or not) on the day of, the day before, the week before, and the month before. Birthday alerts will ALWAYS be displayed when you open the app. System notifications, that both display the same birthday reminder information as the alerts and, when clicked, bring the app to the foreground, are optional, and can be turned on and off whenever you'd like. They are available by pressing the "Preferences (Notifications)" button after install.
Sound good (still)? Press the "Install App" button to get started!
